clashes of civilizations

December 22, 2006

Don’t know who of you are familiar with Huntington’s term "clashes  of civilizations", the cultural clash that can emerge when two totally different cultures interact and tries, or don’t try, to work out their differences.

The reason for me bringing up this term is not to get you all engaged in a political discussion right now, but the words popped up in my head as I was thinking about this fascinating thing we’re about to experience! An indian celebrating christmas in Norway! Unni, the girl I was in India with, is having a visit from our indian friend who is currently studying in Germany. Here, he’ll experience a Norwegian traditional celebration.!! And they eat LUTEFISK!! haha :) He’ll get the cultural shock of a lifetime, it will be a very exciting time for us all. But if he comes to Norway with the notion that we are fully "civilized" he will defineately think again after seing all our crazy traditions! :) So, if you all have some wierd tradition you would like to share, please share with us all. I’m eager to know. What would be the most crazy thing  for an indian to experience in Norway!? Let me know
