Review of 2006

December 29, 2006

2006 has almost come to end and I suppose it’s only natural that one starts to think about events in the past year. India, France, Roskilde, work, kids, rain, rain, rain, school, friends, fun, sad, …. all things I have experienced this year. Understandably India was this year’s highlight where I got to meet some really amazing people and where I had the biggest cultural shock of my life!

I was thinking, when one is so fortunate to experience all these things in a year, does one change? I think I’ve changed, or at least I’ve discovered new sides of myself. How noticable it is to the outsideworld however is another question. Not what matters I guess. But all this stuff about new years resolutions, making all these promises that no-one keeps.. isn’t it better to just try to experience as much as one can, and hope life teaches you everything you need to know? Lets call it "natural improvement", in a replacement for "forced new years make myself better in a snap" kind of improvement.   Hm… so life altering new years resolutions, I have no faith in. Small fun ones however is ok :) Tory: your’s the best I’ve heard so far!

My newyears resolution is to have a life. Live and Learn! :) but hey, as always I’m open for suggestions!

Wherever you all are, whatever you’re all doing, I wish you all a merry christmas! Hope times are peaceful and good, and that you all get to spend time with those who are important to you. Best wishes to all of you, to your family and friends.

clashes of civilizations

December 22, 2006

Don’t know who of you are familiar with Huntington’s term "clashes  of civilizations", the cultural clash that can emerge when two totally different cultures interact and tries, or don’t try, to work out their differences.

The reason for me bringing up this term is not to get you all engaged in a political discussion right now, but the words popped up in my head as I was thinking about this fascinating thing we’re about to experience! An indian celebrating christmas in Norway! Unni, the girl I was in India with, is having a visit from our indian friend who is currently studying in Germany. Here, he’ll experience a Norwegian traditional celebration.!! And they eat LUTEFISK!! haha :) He’ll get the cultural shock of a lifetime, it will be a very exciting time for us all. But if he comes to Norway with the notion that we are fully "civilized" he will defineately think again after seing all our crazy traditions! :) So, if you all have some wierd tradition you would like to share, please share with us all. I’m eager to know. What would be the most crazy thing  for an indian to experience in Norway!? Let me know

I ånd av regnet

December 14, 2006

rainy christmas

December 8, 2006

Rain is pouring down, and yet the christmas spirit is taking hold inside me. I think the way to christmas spirit is through kids, the carols, the joy of small things, the food. I’ve stopped the giftraid, partly cause of the economic situation every students finds oneself in, but also cause I don’t really see the point anymore. Is anyone with me on this?

Anyways, rain is pouring down, wind is blowing, and there are several degrees plus outside. Global warming is a hot issue in media, allthough I’m desperately searching for some constructive articles on the subject. Any suggestions? please let me know. My mind is leaning towards a future studies in environmental politics, so any inputs are highly appreciated :)

Christmasconcert is saturday 16th in Mariakirken in Bergen at 6pm, for those of you who are interested :)

And the Norwegian soap: Hotel Cæsar, is paid tribute to in my home in the form of a gingerbread cookiehouse! Come and join the drama!

Keep me updated, take care, catch the christmas spirit, go outside in the rain and get wet!
